Volunteer Press Feature

by Hananh Hellman2025-01-08

Media coverage of total solar eclipses often involves interviewing a diverse range of people, from volunteers to astronomers. Reporters may speak with astronomers to provide scientific explanations, local residents to share their unique perspectives, and travelers who have travelled to witness the eclipse. Many of our volunteers have been featured in the News over the course of their eclipse chasing journeys, and we are thrilled to collect and share them with you.

  1. CTV News interviewed people attending the total solar eclipse that passed over the Norweigan archipelago of Svalbard on March 20, 2015, including Richard Patching, an Eclipse Megamovie volunteer for both the 2017 and 2024 total solar eclipses.
  2. WKYC Channel 3 interviewed Heather and Kaz Kashihara for the April 8, 2024, total solar eclipse. See the Youtube Video for a different perspective on the story. Another story posted by the same news network on April 9, 2024, also contains a perspective from Heather.

If you volunteered for the Eclipse Megamovie 2024 Project and you were interviewed by a local news station or reporter, send the link with your name to Hellmanh@sonoma.edu!
